Dr. Maurizio Pilu

 

Short Bio

Maurizio is a professional with an unique mixture of technology, commercial and investment experience who has been involved in technology and its commercialization with various roles and responsibilities since the beginning of his career. Currently (since Jan 09) he is Lead Technologist in ICT at the UK Government executive innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board, driving high-impact investments in innovative projects and businesses across the UK, with a headline budget of circa £250m a year. Recently he was directing ICT investment strategy, deal sourcing, due diligence with portfolio management and board-level roles at a London-based venture capital firm. He previously spent ten years in the Office of Strategy and Technology at Hewlett Packard Laboratories as Technical Lead and Senior Scientist where he led or co-led many advanced technology projects and contributions to product divisions. He was member of the Intellectual Property strategy panel at HP Laboratories and has significant hands-on experience in intellectual property. He has been in the software industry for nearly 20 years during which he has built a technical, leadership, execution and commercialization track record and expertise, especially in the imaging and multimedia domain. He filed over 50 US patents, published 35 articles in refereed conferences and journals and over 50 HP Technical Reports and presented at numerous conferences and events. Some of his works are widely used in the field and featured in mainstream media. He holds a Laurea in Ingegneria from the Politecnico di Milano, a Doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh and an Executive MBA from the Bath School of Management.
